We are happy that we are
able to vaccinate thousands of
children against the flu each
year. Vaccination against the
flu is recommended for ALL children
older than 6 months of age. As
in prior years, we will be offering
flu
shot
as well as nasal
flu mist. Please read
the below guidelines before booking
an on-line appointment for a flu
clinic.
THIS YEAR: If your child has a
mild egg allergy, he/she may be
able to get a flu shot.
New research shows that it is
safe for peolpe with mild egg
allergy to get the flu shot. If
a person has a severe egg allergy
(history of anaphylaxis), then
they should not get any flu vaccine.
Children with mild egg allergy,
should book an appointment with
his/her doctor rather than receiving
the vaccine at one of our clinics.
DOES MY CHILD NEED ONE
OR TWO DOSES OF FLU VACCINE?
The following groups need TWO
doses of vaccine this year:
• Children under age 9 years
receiving flu vaccine for the
very first time
• Children under age 9 years
who received seasonal flu vaccine
for the
first time last season, but received
only 1 dose of seasonal flu vaccine

Children
with Asthma, Diabetes
and Other Chronic
Illnesses: |

These children are considered high-risk
for complications from the flu and
they need to receive the flu shot.
Patients who are in this category
may NOT receive flu mist nasal spray.
High-risk patients will be given
highest priority for flu shots and
may receive the shot in a high-risk
flu clinic. Please follow above
guidelines to decide if your child
needs one or two doses of flu shot.

At the current time(9/8/11), we
have not received flu shots for
high risk patients over age 3. We
anticipate the high risk clinics
to be scheduled in October. You
will receive a letter soon with
the high risk password which will
enable you to schedule flu shots
once available. Thank you for your
patience. High risk children under
age 3 years-old, may go ahead and
schedule shots at any of the regular
flu clinics currently open.

Children between ages 6 months and
2 years must receive a shot, not
the mist. Babies can often be given
flu shots at regularly scheduled
well child appointments in the Fall
and Winter and may not need to make
a separate trip to the office for
a flu clinic. Please follow above
guidelines to decide if your baby
needs one or two doses of flu shot.

Healthy children
over age 2 years with no history
of wheezing in the last year,
may receive flu shot or nasal
flu mist. Vaccines may usually
be given at regular check-ups
if you have one scheduled in the
Fall or Winter. Please follow
the above guidelines to decide
if your child needs one or two
doses of flu shot.
